Just as CPR helps us assist an individual having a heart attack, 心理健康 First Aid helps us assist some一个 experiencing a mental health or substance use-related 危机. In the 心理健康 First Aid course, we learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help some一个 in both 危机 and non-危机 situations, and where to turn for help.

Trainers also learn risk factors and warning signs of mental illness and about available 心理健康治疗. Upon completion, trainers better understand the impact mental illnesses have on a person, their family, and communities. 国家委员会,其中 oversees 心理健康 First Aid nationally and credentials trainers, will ensure 美国.S. program continues to have a strong empirically-backing by ongoing evaluation 在这个国家.

"When you think of basic first aid, what comes to mind? 我们很多人都带着急救用品 kits in our cars, or have taken a basic first aid course. 为什么? 也许我们想要 be prepared to help a loved 一个 in a medical emergency, or perhaps we have an altruistic desire to be of service if a stranger needs assistance. 知识和技能服务 us well in navigating an emergency and can potentially prevent a medical emergency 通过早期干预. 心理健康 First Aid (MHFA) aims to do both: teach members of the public how to respond in a mental health emergency and offer support to some一个 who appears to be in emotional distress.(斯瓦布里克,P. & 布朗,J.K., 2008)
